The Doctors is a TV show carried on CBS featuring four doctors that discuss current medical topics and new technologies. And yes one of the doctors you may recognize as “The Bachelor”. Recently they featured the technology of the optomap® Retinal Exam. Total Eye care is one of approximately 3000 offices nationwide that utilizes this great technology. Check out the video below. Can an orthomap show early signs of Rheumatoid Arthritis or any other signs of auto-immune diseases?
Thank you
Melanie
Hello,
While the optomap is important in the detection of ocular conditions the optomap would not be the first choice to screen patients for auto immune diseases. The optomap would however, be very helpful in monitoring some of the side effects of medications that are used to control auto immune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.

HELLO I RECENTLY WENT TO A EYE DOCTOR AND SHE TOLD ME I HAD CATERACTS FIRST STAGE …WELL THING ABOUT THIS IS I AM ONLY 47 IN SEPT. SHE ASKED ME IF I TOOK STEROIDES AND I HAVE NEVER TAKEN THEM EVER IN MY LIFE COULD IT BE MY VITAMINS THAT IM TAKING? OR COULD THIS REALLY HAPPEN AT MY AGE?
Thanks for commenting on The Eye Doc Blog. Yes, you don’t have to be a senior to get cataracts. It is unlikely that the vitamins you have been taking caused your cataracts. Some people just get cataracts at an earlier age than others.
THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING SO SOON….I HOPE THEY SLOW DOWN AND NOT GROW SO FAST IS THERE ANY THING I CAN DO TO STOP IT, THE CATARACTS?
Thanks for the kind words. No there is nothing currently available to prevent the progression of cataracts, though it is an area of great interest.
I thought I saw on the doctors show a new procedure that gets the red out of your eyes
I had my first experience with the Optomap Retinal Eye Exam yesterday! Read my review:
